Our Story
The Balderston Auto Group was built on family, hard work, and the belief that doing what’s right always leads the way. Bob Balderston — born in Manhattan, Kansas and raised in Kansas City at 55th and Lydia — learned the value of commitment early, starting work at age 13. He attended Paseo High School and later Kansas State College of Pittsburg, then began his career with Ford Motor Company in 1969 before purchasing Blue Springs Ford in 1975. From this small dealership, the group has grown into a trusted automotive family serving the Kansas City area for generations.
A Family-Led Legacy
In 1986, Bob married Kris, and together they raised three children: Blaine, Karanne, and McCall. Over the years, the business expanded to include Lee’s Summit Honda, Lee’s Summit Subaru, and Smithville Ford. Today, the Balderston children continue the family tradition, working alongside a dedicated team committed to putting people first. Worthy Pop-Up Bar
At Balderston Auto Group, we are proud to support community initiatives that create meaningful impact, including our involvement in the Worthy Pop-Up Bar at The Maverick this March, a two-night fundraiser benefiting Newhouse — Kansas City’s first domestic violence shelter. Marketing Manager Brooke Thompson and Lee's Summit Honda Executive Manager Karanne Benton represented our organization as special guest bartenders, helping bring energy and purpose to an event centered on empowerment, self-care, and supporting survivors of domestic violence. Their efforts contributed to an impressive $18,838 raised, earning 3rd place among 23 bartending teams and helping support a total of $230,224 raised for Newhouse Kansas City. We are honored to stand alongside Newhouse in its mission to provide safety, shelter, and essential services to individuals and families in need, and we remain committed to giving back to the communities we serve.
Light The Night
For Balderston Auto Group, getting involved in Light The Night is about more than simply taking part in an event — it is a personal commitment rooted in the experiences of our team members and the loved ones who have been impacted by blood cancer. We are inspired by the strength of survivors and those still in treatment, and we participate to honor their journeys, remember those we have lost, and stand alongside families who continue to fight. We were proud to participate through walking alongside the community, fundraising, and helping raise awareness for Blood Cancer United, supporting its mission of advancing research, patient services, and hope for a future without blood cancer, while helping bring light to the darkness of cancer, and we look forward to continuing our involvement in future events.
